Fluvanna Correctional Center Overview
Fluvanna Correctional Center for Women is a Virginia Department of Corrections state prison at 144 Prison Lane in Troy. VADOC lists the prison’s phone, physical address, mailing address, and warden. Research for this project identifies the facility as a state prison that houses sentenced female VADOC prisoners, including reception, intake, medical, and mental-health populations. That role is distinct from Central Virginia Regional Jail, which is the regional jail serving Fluvanna County arrests. Sheriff Eric B. Hess and the Fluvanna County Sheriff's Office are local law-enforcement context, not the operator of FCCW.
Because FCCW is a state prison, its records flow through statewide VADOC systems. A person arrested in Fluvanna County generally starts in local or regional jail custody if detained. If later sentenced to state prison, that person may become VADOC-responsible and appear in the VADOC locator. The prison should not be described as a county jail, a booking center for new Fluvanna arrests, or a place where CVRJ visitation rules apply.

Fluvanna Prison Capacity
The VADOC PREA audit describes FCCW as a maximum-custody capable women’s prison with 13 buildings inside a 30-acre fenced perimeter. The same audit lists a rated capacity of 1,313 maximum-custody female offenders and says the facility opened in April 1998. VADOC population reports give a more current custody picture: January 2025 average daily population was 751, and January 2026 average daily population was 788.
| Measure | Figure | Source |
|---|---|---|
| Rated capacity | 1,313 maximum-custody female offenders | VADOC PREA audit |
| First audit day population | 826 adult female offenders | VADOC PREA audit |

Lookup Fluvanna Prison Inmates
Use the VADOC Inmate and Supervisee Locator to search for someone at Fluvanna Correctional Center for Women. The locator covers people incarcerated in VADOC institutions, probationers and parolees supervised by district offices, institutional hospital assignments, people housed in local or regional jails under VADOC authority, and CCAP participants. It is the correct lookup route for sentenced state-prison custody at FCCW.
- Open the VADOC Inmate and Supervisee Locator.
- Search by first and last name, or use the DOC ID number if known.
- Use optional filters such as location, race, gender, and age range only when they help narrow a common name.
- Read the VADOC disclaimer and check the displayed location, custody category, and available identifiers.
- If the person was recently sentenced from Fluvanna County and does not appear, also check CVRJ/VINE because transfer timing can lag.
VADOC states that locator data may be inaccurate or outdated and that the locator is updated daily. Sentencing or time-computation questions are not answered by the county jail roster. They should be routed through VADOC’s published channels or the sentencing court record.
| Search Field | Use | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| First Name and Last Name | Name search | Required when searching by name. |
| DOC ID# | Identifier search | Useful for deposits and exact matching. |
| Location | Optional filter | Can help narrow to FCCW. |
| Race, Gender, Age Range | Optional filters | Use cautiously to avoid excluding the right person. |
Fluvanna Prison Visits
FCCW uses VADOC statewide visiting procedures, not CVRJ housing-block visits. Visitors should use the VADOC visiting an inmate page for applications, approval, scheduling, cancellations, identification rules, and current statewide notices. A state-prison visit can depend on the person’s custody status, disciplinary limits, institutional schedule, and operational changes. Do not assume county-jail visiting hours apply.
| Visit Topic | FCCW Rule Source | What to Confirm |
|---|---|---|
| Visitor approval | VADOC statewide visitation | Application and approval status before travel. |
| Scheduling | VADOC statewide visitation | Current appointment process and cancellations. |
| Facility updates | VADOC facility and news pages | Operational changes, added visiting tables, and notices. |
| Local jail schedule | Not applicable | CVRJ block times do not apply to FCCW. |
The VADOC facilities screenshot shows Fluvanna Correctional Center for Women in the state facilities listing with prison contact details.
Use that state facilities listing to confirm the prison contact, then use VADOC’s family and friends pages for visit, mail, and money procedures.
Fluvanna Prison Mail Money
VADOC’s sending money page says family and friends may send money through JPay and need the incarcerated person’s 7-digit inmate ID number. VADOC says that ID appears in locator search results next to the inmate’s name. FCCW mail follows VADOC sending-mail procedures, and the VADOC facilities page lists the mailing address as P.O. Box 1000, Troy, VA.
| Service | Provider or Rule | FCCW Detail |
|---|---|---|
| Money deposits | JPay through VADOC | Requires the 7-digit inmate ID. |
| VADOC statewide mail rules | Use FCCW mailing address and current VADOC rules. | |
| Visitation | VADOC statewide visitation | Approval and scheduling are separate from county jail visits. |
| Tablets | VADOC pilot facility notice | FCCW was named as one of four pilot facilities in 2026. |
Fluvanna County Jail Versus FCCW
A Fluvanna County arrest and a Fluvanna state-prison placement are different custody events. The county's CVRJ Authority page documents Fluvanna's regional jail participation, while the Sheriff FOIA page covers Sheriff-held records. Central Virginia Regional Jail is the place to check for many new local arrests, pretrial holds, short local sentences, and some state or federal prisoners housed by agreement. Fluvanna Correctional Center for Women is for sentenced female offenders in VADOC custody. A woman sentenced from a Fluvanna court may eventually appear at FCCW, but the prison is not the first stop for most street arrests.
This distinction prevents common search errors. If the arrest just happened, start with CVRJ and VINE. If the person was sentenced to VADOC custody, use the state locator. If the case is federal or immigration-related, use BOP or ICE systems instead. Court charges and hearing dates remain separate from custody lookup and should be checked through Virginia court systems.
| Question | Use CVRJ | Use FCCW/VADOC |
|---|---|---|
| Recent Fluvanna arrest | Yes | No, unless already transferred to VADOC authority. |
| Sentenced state-prison custody | Only during transition or local VADOC-authority hold | Yes. |
| County visitation block | Yes, for CVRJ inmates | No. |
| VADOC inmate ID for JPay | No | Yes. |
Fluvanna Prison Programs News
VADOC news gives FCCW several current facility-specific details. On March 11, 2026, VADOC announced that FCCW hosted a TEDx event called “The Journey” with more than 40 speakers and described it as the first TEDx event in a Virginia women’s prison. On February 9, 2026, VADOC named FCCW as one of four pilot facilities for new inmate tablets. Another 2026 VADOC release said seven visitation tables were added at FCCW.
VADOC also reported a January 22, 2025 investigation at FCCW that led to three arrests and seizure of more than $80,000 worth of illegal drugs after an attempted smuggling incident. That item is operational news, not a public custody roster. It should not be used to infer anything about a specific inmate unless an official record ties that person to the case.
Fluvanna Prison Records
For FCCW custody records, start with VADOC sources. For court records after a Fluvanna County arrest, use Virginia court case information and the proper clerk. For law-enforcement records created by the Fluvanna County Sheriff’s Office, use the Sheriff FOIA route. For jail records at Central Virginia Regional Jail, use the CVRJ custodian route. A single name can appear in more than one system because arrest, jail custody, sentencing, and state-prison placement are separate stages.
The Central Virginia Regional Jail page covers the regional jail used for local Fluvanna custody. Use this FCCW page for VADOC prison lookup, statewide prison visitation, prison mail, prison money, and current state-prison context.
Note: Confirm VADOC location, visiting approval, and current facility notices before traveling to FCCW.
