Population figures for Central Virginia Regional Jail should be read as regional figures, not a Fluvanna-only count. CVRJ’s history page says the jail currently houses about 400 local, state, and federal prisoners. Central Virginia Jail History

CVRJ became operational on September 1, 1990, according to the jail’s official history page. It opened with 96 design beds and 50 original staff. The 1995 expansion added a 50-bed dormitory and two classrooms, while the 1999 expansion added more beds, an infirmary, indoor recreation, additional visitation space, laundry, a larger sally port, and support areas.
